| About the artist: | Leon Wyczółkowski (1852 - 1936) Leon Wyczółkowski started study at Warsaw Drawing Class under Aleksander Kamieński and Wojciech Gerson. Then he studied at Munich Academy under Alexander Wagner and at Cracow Fine Arts School under Jan Matejko. He was travelling to Paris twice. He lived in Lwów initially, in 1881 he moved to Warsaw. The years 1883-1894 he spent in Ukraine and in Podole (east Poland). In 1895 he moved to Cracow and became a teacher at Fine Arts School.Then he was travelling a lot. He was a founder-member of Polish Artists Society „Art”. He had a lot of exhibitions – in Poland and abroad. The years 1929-1936 he spent at Poznań and Gościeradz commuting to Warsaw, where he was leading engraving faculty at Fine Arts Academy. He was painting landscapes, portraits, genre scenes and still lives, especially flowers. He was using pastel technique willingly, he was also an outstanding engraver. | |||||||||||||||||
