Export restrictions and licences

Importing art is now much easier !

Poland is known to have strong laws forbidding export of objects of art older than 50 years.
Now, since June 2010 according to the new regulation export of art objects is subject also to their market value .

There are two factors that affect the export possibility : age (limit of 50 years) and value.
Depending on the media of an item, there are value limits below which export is free of charge and time consuming paperwork.

For example:

• limit to paintings is set to 10 000 euro
  
• paper works limit = 4000 euro
• sculptures limit = 5000 euro
• photographs, maps, books limit= 1500 euro

If an object is:
older than 50 years and its value < limit newer than 50 years and its value > limit	no special action required
older than 50 years and value > limit	export licence is obligatory

The licence may be delivered for a State fee amounting to 25% of the object value.
For example, you won a lot for 1000, you pay premium of 15% and if you want the export licence you pay extra 25% of 1000. So the total payment amounts to 1400 (1000+150+250).

The licence is delivered usually within 3 weeks.
In some rare cases, when the object is of great cultural value for the Polish State , the licence may be refused at all.

Re-export exemption
Lots previously imported to Poland within 3 years from European Union are exempt of the fee. You will see the mention at the lot's page.

Collecting personal information
We are also obliged by law to collect the personal data of buyers (address, id no) spending or receiving by sale, amounts exceeding 15 000 euro (or equivalent in Pln).
